Mesa activates 2 solar-power electric systems
MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa has activated two solar power electric systems, one at a fire and police station and another at a multigenerational center in the city.
Solar panels have been installed onto new canopy parking structures providing shaded parking for patrons and city vehicles.
City officials said the projects combined will generate more than 795,000 kilowatt hours of energy annually. That's enough solar energy to provide electricity for 77 homes for a year.
SolarCity installed and will own and maintain the systems in a 20-year agreement with Mesa.
Savings in utility costs over that two-decade span are estimated at $660,000 for the two solar electric systems.
