SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Scottsdale branch of the Heard Museum is looking for a new home.

The Heard Museum North Scottsdale will leave its space inside a shopping center when the lease expires May 31.

Museum director James Pepper Henry said there have been ongoing talks with other parties, including city officials in Scottsdale and the nearby town of Carefree, about relocation.

The Heard North has been at the location since July 2007. It houses two exhibit galleries, a cafe and a gift shop.

Henry said unlike the main museum in downtown Phoenix, the Scottsdale location fails to draw visitors year-round.

The Heard Museum in Phoenix holds more than 40,000 artworks and cultural artifacts showcasing American Indians, with an emphasis on tribes in the Southwest.
