ELOY, Ariz. -- Authorities say a Mesa man is dead after a car chase and an officer-involved shooting in Eloy involving a stolen vehicle.
Pinal County Sheriff's officials identify the man as Manuel Orosco Longoria, 40.
They say he was shot twice Tuesday afternoon by a deputy and taken to Casa Grande Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff's deputies were asked by Eloy police to assist with a pursuit involving a vehicle reported stolen out of Casa Grande on Monday night.
During the 40-minute pursuit, authorities say the suspect rammed a patrol vehicle while attempting to get away.
The chase ended when the Longoria crashed into another patrol vehicle.
"He was finally stop-sticked," said Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu. "His tires were flattened and a pit maneuver was made on his vehicle."
After the crash, authorities say he refused to obey verbal commands and yelled profanities at the deputies, despite being struck with a beanbag round fired from a shotgun and tased.
They say Longoria was shot after he suddenly reached back into the vehicle.
