Pedestrian finds body along canal in west Phoenix

PHOENIX — Police are investigating the murder of a man whose body was found along the canal in west Phoenix.
Detectives said patrol officers reported hearing gunshots around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the neighborhood near 47th Avenue and Cholla Street. Shortly thereafter a passerby found the body of a male in his late teens or early 20s around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday along the canal. The body had at least one gunshot wound.
The victim remained unidentified Wednesday morning and police also had no leads on the shooter. Information can be given to police at 480-WITNESS.
