PHOENIX (AP)- Authorities say a man is in custody in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in central Phoenix.

Phoenix police announced Friday that 52-year-old Alexander Hearn is being held on suspicion of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night at the intersection of 24th and Van Buren streets after witnesses say he was struck by an SUV.

Authorities say the 50-year-old victim was crossing the street against traffic and the driver involved fled the scene after the accident.

First responders found the man in the roadway and took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police haven't released the victim's identity because his family has yet to be notified.

It was unclear Friday night if Hearn has legal representation yet for his case.
