PHOENIX -- A bullet pierced a window in a northwest Phoenix apartment, wounding a sleeping woman.

Police said the gunfire near Interstate 17 and Peoria Avenue was apparently random and the injury was nonlife-threatening.

Lt. Tom Van Dorn said the woman was lying in bed late Thursday night when she was hit.

Police had received several 911 calls during the evening about gunshots in the area.

No arrest has been made. Arizona law makes randomly firing a weapon within city limits a felony offense.
