Sentencing delay sought for ex-Fiesta Bowl chief
PHOENIX -- The Fiesta Bowl's former top leader is asking for another delay of his sentencing on his federal court conviction in a campaign-finance scheme.
A lawyer for John Junker is asking a judge to reset Junker's Jan. 13 sentencing date to May.
Attorney Stephen Dichter says state prosecutors want additional pre-sentencing cooperation from Junker, including in a criminal case involving a former lobbyist for the bowl.
Federal prosecutors agree with the request to delay his federal sentencing, but they also say it shouldn't be assumed they'll acquiesce with additional requests in the future.
Junker told authorities that he conspired with others to ask bowl employees to make campaign contributions.
Junker also awaits sentencing on a state felony charge of soliciting a fraudulent scheme.
Both sentencings have been delayed several times.
