PHOENIX -- Authorities in Phoenix said an off-duty Maricopa County sheriff's deputy was injured when he was shot at in his car and struck in the face by the bullet and broken window glass.
Deputy Tom Beckley told police he was following the other vehicle in northwest Phoenix near 3600 W. Behrend Drive when the shooting occurred Tuesday morning. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the deputy began following the car after noticing it while dropping off his uncle. The other car left the scene.
Beckley's uncle was in the car at the time of the shooting after going on a ride-along. He was not injured.
Authorities are searching for the suspect vehicle. It is described as being a white Chevrolet pickup truck with white wall tires and 22-inch chrome wheels. It has Arizona license plate AVJ5168.
