GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A neighbor used a ladder to help members of a Glendale family escape their burning home.

Neighbor Jose Manata said he took a ladder to the burning home after his sister woke him up when she heard screaming coming from that home.

A woman on a second-floor balcony dropped a baby into Manata's arms, and the woman and two other children climbed down the ladder to safety.

The fire gutted the home Sunday night. Its cause was not immediately known.
