Injured hiker airlifted from Piestewa Peak

PHOENIX — Phoenix Fire Department rescue crews responded to a call Friday about an injured hiker on Piestewa Peak.
When the crews made contact with the hiker, they determined a helicopter rescue would be needed.
The fire department said the individual was safely extricated off the mountain and reunited with family members. The hiker was also taken to a local trauma center as a precaution.
No information has been provided yet on the hiker’s gender or the nature of injury.
The fire department reminds people to wear proper clothing, bring a cellphone and plenty of water and stay on the trails when hiking.
