TUCSON, Ariz. -- An adult-care provider accused of abusing an elderly patient in Tucson has been sentenced to four years of probation.

Pima County prosecutors said 30-year-old Annuhar Jesus Ruiz also was ordered to pay $3,400 in restitution.

Ruiz was accused in July of beating 93-year-old Dorris Brown, a resident of Asterion Acres assisted-living facility.

He pleaded guilty to vulnerable-adult abuse.

Brown's family installed a camera in the room, which was how Ruiz and a co-defendant were discovered.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that Ruiz was filmed hitting the woman with fists and a remote control.

The victim's son said the family had the camera installed after Brown's health began to deteriorate.

Ruiz's attorney said his client is remorseful and won't seek employment in the elder-care field again.
