PHOENIX -- Authorities say an early morning armed robbery at an Arizona adult boutique Monday ended in a shootout with a sheriff's deputy that left one ex-convict dead and another injured.

Pinal County Sheriff's officials identified the dead suspect as 32-year-old Matthew Clowers. He served 10 years in an Arizona prison for armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

They say 32-year-old Adam Chavez was wounded suspect. He spent eight months in prison for theft and endangerment.

Authorities say the two men entered the business early Monday, tied up a female employee and fled with a safe and cash from the register.

The woman was able to escape and call 911 with a description of the suspects' car and that started a high-speed chase that ended in a shootout.
