PHOENIX - A Phoenix police officer was assaulted during a routine traffic stop Saturday morning.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson said a man pushed the officer as he was being handcuffed near 19th Avenue and Bell Road. The man then drove off in his own car.

The officer was treated for a back injury and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police were still looking for the suspect.
