MESA, Ariz. -- Authorities have released the name of a man who died on a flight from Nebraska to Arizona.

Mesa police said Friday that the passenger was 81-year-old Richard L. Nootz of Lincoln, Neb.

Allegiant Air officials said the incident occurred Thursday afternoon on Flight 115 from Lincoln/Grand Isle, Neb.

Allegiant spokesman Justin Ralenkotter told a Phoenix TV station that as the plane approached Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, the flight crew declared a medical emergency.

After the plane touched down at the Mesa airport, fire department officials say the passenger was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office is working to determine the cause of death.
