PHOENIX -- Rain from a storm system made streets and highways in the Phoenix area wet during the Friday morning commute while snow fell in some high-elevation parts of Arizona.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in northern, eastern and north-central Arizona above 6,000 feet, covering the White Mountains, the Mogollon Rim and mountains in Yavapai County.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reported snow on Interstates 17 and 40 near Flagstaff and on State Route 87 north of Payson.

The National Weather Service said .18 inch of rain fell in Phoenix by 5 a.m. More rain is expected across south-central Arizona before it begins to taper off by the afternoon.

Forecasters said no widespread flooding is expected but water may pond in low-lying areas and normally dry washes may run briefly.
