PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Compensation claims against the state, Yavapai County and the city of Prescott in connection with the deadly Yarnell Hill fire last summer continue to pile up.
According to the Daily Courier, eight additional claims filed Tuesday on behalf on property owners in Yarnell, the rural community where more than 100 homes were destroyed.
The claims are precursors to possible lawsuits, and a law firm has filed 23 claims on behalf of Yarnell property owners. Six claims were filed Monday for more than $33 million.
The latest claims seek $40.5 million. The previous claims by property owners asked for a total of $59 million.
There's also a claim by the mother of a firefighter who perished when his Prescott crew was overtaken by the fire. That claims seeks $48 million.
