PHOENIX -- The Arizona Supreme Court promised a quick decision on the legality of a new law raising campaign contribution limits nearly ten-fold.
The court on Tuesday heard arguments on an appeal filed by lawyers for Senate President Andy Biggs and House Speaker Andy Tobin. They want the court to uphold the new higher limits passed this year by the Legislature.
The court already sharply questioned the lawyer for the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission about the commission's effort to block the new limits.
The Arizona Court of Appeals court blocked the law in October after the commission argued it conflicted with limits set by a voter-approved law.
Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch told attorneys the court expects to issue a ruling quickly and provide an explanation on its reasoning later.
