County officials say Robert Steele is appealing his Nov. 21 dismissal.

Steele also is appealing a suspension he received last year after being involved in a fatal on-duty crash in which he reportedly was driving nearly 100 mph near Gold Canyon Ranch.

The man killed was driving drunk and Steele wasn't charged in the August 2012 case, but Steele was suspended for 12 hours after an internal sheriff's investigation found he violated several safety and conduct policies.

Steele returned to full duty on Jan. 24.

He was placed on administrative assignment on July 23 after four complaints of unsafe and out-of-policy on-duty driving were lodged against him -- two in June and two in July.
