KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A 32-year-old Kingman foster mother has been sentenced to 100 days in jail for the accidental bathtub drowning of an 8-month-old baby in her care.
Superior Court Commissioner Derek Carlisle sentenced Elizabeth Dawn Stone on Monday on her conviction for negligent homicide in the Sept. 25, 2011 incident at her home.
Sheriff's detectives said Stone found the infant face down in the tub when she returned to the bathroom after going to get a towel, answering the phone and speaking briefly with her then-fiance, who is now her husband.
Detectives believed Stone was out of the bathroom between three and five minutes. Attempts to revive the infant were unsuccessful.
The infant suffered from fetal alcohol syndrome and was placed into Stone's care by the Hualapai Tribe.
