PHOENIX -- An older man was removed from a Phoenix mountain Monday in extremely critical condition, the Phoenix Fire Department said.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said the 70-year-old man was hiking alone and bystanders called authorities after he collapsed.

The man, who has not been identified, was about halfway up the mountain when he sustained a medical emergency.
