SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale police said a 52-year-old man is dead after officers responded to a silent 911 call from the man's home.

Police said the man pointed a gun toward officers and then put his gun to his head and fired one round. An officer had fired at the man but missed.

Police said the 911 call Wednesday night was disconnected before the caller said anything and that officers went to the home after there was no answer when an operator returned the call.
