PHOENIX -- Two people are dead following a motorcycle crash in Phoenix.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the crash happened early Saturday morning along Interstate 17 at McDowell Road.

DPS spokesman Sgt. Jacob Pruet said a man and his female passenger were merging onto I-17 from I-10 when they apparently struck a concrete wall and were ejected from the bike.

Pruet said the bike traveled upright for a few hundred feet after the occupants were ejected.

He told Phoenix television station KTVK the man and woman were wearing helmets but fell 120 feet from the ramp to the ground. They landed in a gravel area near the McDowell Road exit and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims' identities were not immediately released.
