FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Arizona Snowbowl resort north of Flagstaff is set to open for the season after early season snow and snowmaking combined to allow skiing to begin.
Snowbowl officials say three ski runs will open Friday and two lifts and a conveyor will bring skiers to the slopes.
The resort's Hart Prairie Lodge will be open and provide restaurant service and equipment rentals.
General Manager J.R. Murray says the early opening is the result of the resort's new snowmaking equipment. It was installed last year after a yearslong legal battle with Indian tribes that consider the San Francisco Peaks sacred.
Murray says the equipment will now be moved to make snow on other runs.
The slopes will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. An adult all-day lift ticket costs $59.
