AVONDALE, Ariz. -- The interim police chief in Avondale for the past five months has been promoted to police chief.

Dale Nannenga joined the city's police department in 2004 as a police lieutenant and was promoted to assistant police chief in 2010.

He replaces Kevin Kotsur, who retired earlier this year.

Nannenga was selected following a nationwide search.

Avondale's police department has 116 officers, 55 full-time civilian employees and dozens of professionally trained part-time and volunteer employees.
