Bond set for suspect in Phoenix restaurant stabbing

PHOENIX -- Bond has been set at $250,000 for a man accused of fatally stabbing a coworker at a downtown Phoenix restaurant.

Maricopa County prosecutors said 23-year-old Javier Alonzo Romero has his initial court appearance Tuesday.

He's being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Police said Romero tried to grab the gun of a police officer while being treated later at a hospital for cuts to his arm.

Romero is accused of attacking another kitchen worker at the Tilted Kilt before the restaurant opened Monday morning. The motive for the stabbing remains unclear and Romero doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Authorities said 26-year-old Miguel Angel Hernandez was declared dead at the scene. He had worked at the downtown restaurant since it opened about three years ago.
