PHOENIX -- A settlement has been reached in a suit personally brought by Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne that accused a conservative political group of running misleading ads. Horne is running for re-election.

The Arizona Public Integrity Alliance issued an apology for running ads earlier this month that incorrectly said Horne was being investigated by the FBI. In fact, the FBI closed its investigation of Horne more than a year ago.

Horne's suit said the group knew the ads were incorrect when they ran. The Alliance removed the FBI reference after receiving a cease and desist letter from Horne.

The confidential settlement was jointly announced Monday and neither side provided additional comment.
