PHOENIX -- Four puppies are recovering at a Maricopa County dog pound and becoming available for adoption after being found doused in diesel fuel and abandoned.

The Sheriff's Office said animal control officers found the 2-month-old German Shepherd mixes Friday after being alerted by a citizen.

The Sheriff's Office said the dogs were in a gray plastic bin, reeked of diesel fuel and were shivering, wet and cold from the storm that day.

The dogs have been washed several times and also treated for minor bites on their hind legs.

The dogs will be at Animal Control's adoption location at Metrocenter Mall near 35th and Peoria avenues on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
