Phoenix shooter convicted of manslaughter
PHOENIX -- A 23-year-old man who had claimed self-defense has been convicted of a lesser offense in the shooting death of a man in a Phoenix restaurant's drive-thru lane.
A Maricopa County Superior Court jury on Wednesday acquitted Cordell Jude of second-degree murder but convicted him of manslaughter in the 2012 death of 29-year-old Daniel Adkins.
The County Attorney's Office said Jude faced a prison term of 7 to 21 years when sentenced Jan. 8.
The confrontation occurred when Adkins walked with his dog through a restaurant parking lot and stepped around a blind corner in front of Jude's car, forcing Jude to suddenly brake.
