PHOENIX -- A portion of eastbound I-10 is closed north of Tucson following a crash that left one man impaled by a guardrail.
KNXV reports that Department of Public Safety officials said the crash happened around 7:45 p.m. Monday between Orange Grove and Ina roads.
Capt. Adam Goldberg of the Northwest Fire District said the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a guard rail.
Goldberg said a man was impaled by a piece of guardrail and had to be extricated from the vehicle. A medical helicopter was on the ground to take the man to UAMC.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Crews told KNXV that traffic was backed up at least 1.5 miles.
Eastbound vehicles on I-10 are being rerouted at Orange Grove Road.
