PHOENIX -- Phoenix police said a 4-year-old girl escaped serious injury when a driver lost control of his car and crashed into a west side home.

Police said the driver, Daniel Sanchez Patino, 26, was taken into custody after the Sunday night accident. He was charged with extreme DUI, criminal damage, leaving the scene of an accident and endangerment.

The girl's mother said her daughter was playing in her bedroom when the car crashed through the side of the house near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road. The car came within inches of hitting the little girl, who suffered only scratches.
