PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police officer is recovering after being struck by a suspected drunken driver.

Police say the collision happened shortly after midnight Saturday near 35th Avenue and Monte Vista. The officer was headed southbound when the other car tried to turn left.

KNXV reports that both the officer and the driver were transported to a local hospital. The officer was released later Saturday morning, and the injuries of the other driver are not believed to be life threatening.

Authorities believe the other driver was impaired. The investigation is ongoing.
