FLORENCE, Ariz. -- Authorities said a Maricopa man has begun a 10 1/2-year prison sentence for a series of crimes in the town eight months ago.
Pinal County prosecutors said 19-year-old Shakir Thomas pleaded guilty to kidnapping, attempted sexual assault and attempted burglary.
Maricopa police said Thomas broke into and burglarized a home March 8 and detained and tried to sexually assault one of the female occupants.
Eight days later, police responded to a noise complaint call and said they saw items that had been reported stolen from the March 8 case.
County officials authorized DNA to be collected from Thomas; tests linked him to the crimes.
Thomas was sentenced Oct. 21 and will be on lifetime probation after serving his prison term.
