$2M in highway safety grants go to Arizona tribes
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- More than $2 million in federal safety grants are going to seven tribes in Arizona's 1st Congressional District.
Arizona Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick announced the funding Wednesday from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The Havasupai Tribe received the bulk of the money -- more than $980,000 -- to upgrade signage, pavement markings and guardrail terminals on Indian Road 18.
The San Carlos Apache Tribe will use its share of the money for work on U.S. 70 and a U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs intersection, and for a motor vehicle injury prevention program.
The Navajo Nation, Kaibab Paiute, Hopi and Hualapai tribes also received funding.
