COLORADO CITY, Ariz. -- Authorities say human remains have been found southeast of Colorado City near the Arizona-Utah border.

Mohave County Sheriff's deputies say the remains were discovered Monday afternoon by children walking and playing in a desert area about a mile off Highway 389.

Salt Lake City TV station KSL reports that it's a near-complete set of human bones but the gender is unknown.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter says the remains have been in the desert for a long time.

The remains have been taken to the Lake Havasu Medical Examiner's office for further investigation and possible identification.

Carter says the case remains under investigation and the sheriff's office will be looking at missing persons reports while waiting for the autopsy results.
