PHOENIX -- A motorcycle driver died Tuesday after a morning wreck that closed northbound Loop 101 at McKellips Road for about two hours.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. The man had rear-ended a car on the freeway that had swerved to avoid another vehicle making a dangerous lane change.

The roadway was reopened around 9:20 a.m.
