PHOENIX -- Arizona Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema is preparing to compete in Ironman Arizona.
The Democrat is in her first term of representing Arizona's 9th District.
Sinema tells KPHO-TV that she's been training seven days a week all year to prepare for the intense event on Nov. 17 in Tempe.
Ironman Arizona consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112-mile cycling ride and a 26.2 mile run.
Sinema hopes to finish the race in under 16 hours.
She said she didn't know how to swim before hiring Olympic gold medalist Misty Hyman as her coach.
Fitting in lengthy training sessions around her job in Congress and her weekly commutes to Washington keeps Sinema's schedule hectic.
She said she's already chosen her next big athletic goal, which is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
