MESA, Ariz. -- Police in Mesa said a motorcycle officer is recovering after being hit by a wrong-way driver.

Police said 47-year-old Jose Valdez is being held on suspicion of endangerment, unlawful flight from law enforcement and leaving the scene of an injury collision Thursday night.

Police said DUI charges are pending blood test results, but that a preliminary breath test showed Valdez had a blood-alcohol level of .205 percent. That's well above Arizona's legal limit of .08 percent for operating a vehicle.

He left the scene but was arrested at a gas station.

The unidentified officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
