PHOENIX -- The 2013 Arizona State Fair welcomed nearly 1.2 million visitors, officials said in a press release.

"We are extremely pleased with the results of this year's Fair and thank Arizonans for coming together to participate in and enjoy this great state tradition," Fair Marketing Director Kristi Walsh said in the release.

The new total of 1,178,515 visitors is the fourth-highest in fair history and set a new record for highest attendance since the fair moved to a five-day schedule four years ago.

About 24,000 more people attended this year's fair over last year's.

The Arizona State Fair marked its 129th year in 2013.
