PHOENIX -- A former assistant Tempe High School band instructor accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student has pleaded guilty.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 23-year-old Andrew Islas (ICE-lass) pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse Wednesday.

He had previously pleaded not guilty in the case. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 9.

Tempe police arrested Islas in February 2012 on suspicion of six counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

Police say Islas allegedly had an ongoing sexual relationship with a then 16-year-old girl at Tempe High from August through November of 2011.

Authorities say the sexual contact allegedly occurred multiple times at various locations including Islas' home in Chandler.
