Former Tempe detective may be prosecuted in tawdry case

PHOENIX -- The Maricopa County Attorney's Office is reviewing a Tempe police report that alleged a detective had sex with a man who was a target of an undercover drug investigation and told him he was under investigation.

The partially redacted report released to media organizations under public-records requests recommended that Detective Jessica Dever-Jakusz be charged with two counts of hindering prosecution.

The detective, who is married to Chandler Officer Garrett Dever, recently resigned. Dever is being investigated by his own department.

Tempe Police Chief Tom Ryff last week sent a memo to employees confirming Dever-Jakusz's resignation. His memo revealed that the case had been referred for possible prosecution but didn't elaborate.

A Tempe police spokesman declined to provide contact information for Dever-Jacusz and a spokesman for the County Attorney's Office couldn't immediately say whether Dever-Jakusz has a lawyer.
