PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police officer has fatally shot a man when he allegedly charged two officers with a knife.
Police say the shooting occurred late Sunday as officers arrived at a home in response to a call from the man's 54-year-old girlfriend.
They say the woman called police after escaping from the man when he attacked her with a knife.
Police say the man then stabbed himself with the knife and was bleeding from the wounds when officers arrived.
They say he ignored commands from police to drop the knife and was shot when he charged officers.
He was declared dead at the scene.
Police identify him as 51-year-old Alfred San Antonio.
His girlfriend suffered minor injuries and police say neither officer involved was injured.
