Arizona forests to begin Christmas tree tags sale

SPRINGERVILLE, Ariz. -- Permits for cutting Christmas trees in Arizona's forests are going up for sale soon.

Nearly 6,000 permits will be available at 19 Big 5 Sporting Goods stores across the state starting Saturday. The $15 permits are available for all of the national forests in Arizona except for the Coronado in the southern part of the state.

Permit holds are limited to one tree per household, which can be up to 10 feet tall. The trees can be cut until Christmas Eve.

Another batch of 4,675 permits will be available at some U.S. Forest Service offices this month.

The majority of the permits are for the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest in eastern Arizona.

Forest officials said they could sell out quickly.
