Tempe library offering amnesty program for overdue books

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Tempe Public Library is giving people with overdue book fees a way out during the month of November.

Kris Baxter Ging with the City of Tempe said it's anyone can receive $1 off their fines for every can of food they bring in.

"The food goes to Tempe Community Action Agency for the food bank. Last year, we fed 500 families for a week off of this program."

Ging said the city hopes to collect even more food this year.

Food for Fines runs through the end of November.
