Suspected immigrant drop house raided in Phoenix

PHOENIX -- Five people are in custody after authorities raided a suspected immigrant drop house in Phoenix.

Authorities said 12 people were found inside the home near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road when a search warrant was served early Friday.

Mesa police said they received a call about people possibly being held against their will and that led them to the Phoenix drop house.

Police said four men and one woman have been arrested, and two victims were being held against their will at the house.

The smugglers agreed to transport the victims into Arizona for a fee and then held the victims and demanded more money.

The victims' relatives contacted the police. Authorities said six pounds of heroin, one pound of cocaine and two handguns were seized in the drop house search.

Jesus German-Zapien was charged with human smuggling.

Mario Florez-Sapien was charged with possession of narcotics.

Mariantonieta Cantua Alvarado was charged with two counts of kidnapping and once count each of extortion, possession of a narcotic, possession of a firearm in a drug offense and human smuggling.

David Noe Sapien was charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count each of extortion and human smuggling.

Jose Hernandez-Padres was charged with two counts of kidnapping and once count each of extortion, human smuggling and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
