PHOENIX -- A Luke Air Force Base airman accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Surprise earlier this month has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Maricopa County prosecutors said Anthony Banks entered his plea Wednesday. His next scheduled court date is a Dec. 18 initial pretrial conference.

The woman told Surprise police that she was at a house party on Oct. 12 and a man assaulted her while she was in a bathroom.

A friend of the woman heard her yelling, but the bathroom door was locked. She told the homeowner, who kicked open the door and scuffled with Banks.

Banks, of Goodyear, was later arrested.

He told police that he remembered going into a bathroom while attending the party but denied that anyone else was in there with him.
