Christmas makes big metro Phoenix entrance with 112-foot tree
PHOENIX -- At 112 feet tall, the Christmas tree standing at the northwestern outskirts of Phoenix will not be ignored, even if the holiday feeling is still AWOL.
The botanic wonder, once again dubbed the nation's tallest fresh-cut tree, was delivered to the Outlets at Anthem on Tuesday morning. The white fir's journey began in Northern California four days ago and made the 750-mile trip on a 75-footlong flatbed trailer.
Santa Claus and carolers were on hand to watch a crane lift the 12-ton, 27-foot-wide tree and set it upright.
Sallyann Martinez, a spokeswoman for the mall, said it takes about two weeks and 14 workers to decorate the tree.
The official tree-lighting ceremony will be held Nov. 16.
