PHOENIX -- A man accused of fatally shooting a neighbor in southwest Phoenix in 2010 has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 28-year-old Xavier Jauregui also was sentenced Monday to three years' probation.
Jauregui pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and burglary in the death of 47-year-old Lincoln Brevard on April 25, 2010.
Phoenix police say Jauregui approached Brevard at his home and asked to see his floor plan. Brevard refused the odd request.
When Brevard's wife and child returned home later that day, they found the victim lying on the garage floor with a head wound.
Brevard was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Police believe Jauregui returned to Brevard's home and an altercation ensued that led to the victim's death.
Jauregui was arrested the following day.
