PHOENIX -- Jurors have concluded deliberations for the day without reaching a verdict in the retrial of a man charged with killing nine people at a suburban Phoenix Buddhist temple in 1991.

Deliberations stalled last week after jurors complained to the judge that one juror had already made up her mind and was refusing to participate further. That juror said she felt badgered.

The judge instructed the jury to continue deliberating in an attempt to reach a verdict. They are set to resume deliberations Tuesday.

Deliberations in 39-year-old Johnathan A. Doody's retrial began Sept. 24. One juror has already been removed after saying the case was too emotional.

Doody was convicted in 1993 and sentenced to 281 years in prison. An appeals court overturned his conviction in 2011, ruling that he wasn't properly read his rights.
