Military personnel face fraud charges in Arizona

PHOENIX -- Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne has announced the indictments of 21 members of the Arizona Air National Guard, accusing eight officers and 13 enlisted men and women of falsifying records to fraudulently receive extra pay.

The charges were announced Monday after an 18-month investigation by state and federal agencies.

Horne said those charged are accused of falsifying records and using fake home addresses in order to receive money meant for those traveling outside of their home regions. The guardsmen were not on Arizona orders at the time.

He said most of the defendants fraudulently claimed to live outside of Tucson.

The investigation was a joint effort by the Attorney General's Office, the FBI, the U.S. Air Force, the Arizona National Guard and the Air National Guard.
