OAK CREEK CANYON, Ariz. -- An 80-year-old Sedona woman is dead after being struck by a falling tree while on a hike in northern Arizona.

Coconino County Sheriff's officials have identified the victim as Phyllis Lindberg.

They say she was hiking with four friends Thursday morning in West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon.

Authorities say the group stopped for lunch shortly after 11 a.m. and rested on a log near the trail when a large conifer tree fell and struck Lindberg.

Members of the hiking party called 911 and responding Sedona Fire personnel say Lindberg was declared dead at the scene from impact injuries.

Another member of the hiking party received minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
